The Health and Safety Officer will be responsible for ensuring a safe, secure, and compliant environment for students, staff, and visitors in accordance with KHDA and UAE health and safety regulations. This role is critical to maintaining safety standards across the school premises, conducting regular risk assessments, and coordinating all health and safety protocols. The ideal candidate should have formal safety training, experience in school inspections, and a proactive approach to risk prevention and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Compliance & Inspections:
- Ensure the school’s full compliance with local health and safety regulations and KHDA guidelines.
- Must have attended at least one KHDA inspection and be familiar with inspection protocols and documentation.
- Prepare and maintain all necessary reports, logs, and compliance records required during inspections.
Risk Assessment & Incident Management:
- Conduct routine safety audits and risk assessments of school buildings, facilities, and daily operations.
- Identify potential hazards and take appropriate corrective actions.
- Maintain and review incident logs, and report health and safety incidents to school leadership.
- Coordinate emergency procedures including fire drills, lockdown drills, and evacuation plans.
Training & Awareness:
- Conduct staff training and student awareness sessions on health and safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure all staff understand first aid protocols, emergency evacuation, and daily safety practices.
- Monitor usage of school infrastructure, playgrounds, labs, and ensure safe student movement across the campus.
Coordination & Documentation:
- Liaise with KHDA, government authorities, vendors, and facility teams for safety compliance and approvals.
- Maintain updated records for safety equipment maintenance, licenses, and risk mitigation actions.
- Ensure that fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, signage, and safety notices are in place and functional.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education & Certification:
- Preferred qualification: NEBOSH / IOSH certification in Health and Safety.
Experience:
- Must have attended at least one KHDA inspection (mandatory).
- Prior experience in a school or institutional environment is highly desirable.
Visa Status:
- Candidates with Spouse Visa, Own Visa, or Employment Visa are preferred.
Skills & Attributes:
- In-depth knowledge of UAE HSE regulations and school safety protocols.
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and solution-focused approach to risk management.
- Ability to conduct trainings, respond to emergencies, and coordinate with diverse teams.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple safety procedures simultaneously.
