Head of Department (HOD) – Science

Job Overview:

The Head of Department (HOD) – Science will be responsible for leading the Science department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning, and fostering a culture of scientific curiosity and innovation. The ideal candidate must be an experienced and passionate educator with strong leadership skills, a commitment to curriculum development, and the ability to mentor teachers while driving student success in STEM education. This role requires adherence to KHDA guidelines and a strategic approach to advancing science education.


Key Responsibilities:

Academic Leadership & Curriculum Development:

  • Oversee the planning, development, and implementation of the Science curriculum in alignment with KHDA standards.
  • Ensure the use of innovative teaching methodologies, hands-on experiments, and technology integration to enhance student learning.
  • Conduct regular curriculum reviews and updates to ensure relevance and academic excellence.
  • Support teachers in developing engaging lesson plans that promote critical thinking, inquiry-based learning, and practical applications.

Teacher Mentorship & Professional Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and provide guidance to the Science teaching faculty.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, training sessions, and workshops to enhance teaching methodologies.
  • Foster collaboration within the department to encourage research-based teaching practices.

Classroom Excellence & Student Engagement:

  • Monitor and evaluate teaching methods, student engagement, and laboratory activities.
  • Ensure the implementation of effective classroom management and safety protocols in science labs.
  • Develop strategies to enhance student performance in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Environmental Sciences.

Student Performance & Assessment:

  • Oversee the design, administration, and evaluation of student assessments.
  • Analyze student performance data and implement strategies for academic improvement and STEM competitions.
  • Encourage student participation in science fairs, innovation projects, and research initiatives.

Parental & Stakeholder Communication:

  • Maintain strong communication with parents regarding student progress, curriculum updates, and school policies.
  • Represent the Science department in staff meetings, leadership discussions, and parent-teacher conferences.

Compliance & Institutional Development:

  • Ensure compliance with KHDA regulations and school policies.
  • Collaborate with the school leadership to enhance the school’s reputation in STEM education.
  • Stay updated with the latest trends in science education, research, and technological advancements.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education:

  • B.Ed. is mandatory (applications without this qualification will not be considered).

Experience:

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a similar role (mandatory).

Preferred Criteria:

  • Candidates with Spouse/Own Visa are preferred (mandatory).
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in curriculum development and teacher mentorship.

Skills & Attributes:

  • Strong subject knowledge in Science across multiple disciplines (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Environmental Science).
  • Excellent leadership, mentoring, and team-building skills.
  • Proficiency in classroom management, student engagement, and laboratory safety protocols.
  • Ability to integrate technology, scientific research, and real-world applications into the curriculum.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
